Edwin C. Schmidt of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the age of 70 years, six months, and 26 days,
Edwin was born, the oldest of 11 children, at Saint Louis, Missouri on May 7, 1942 to the late Tracy and Vivian (Hill) Schmidt. He had lived the majority of his life in the Sullivan area on the family farm and was a graduate of Sullivan High School. He honorably served his country with the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of Airman 1st Class.
Edwin was employed many years as a lineman and cable repairman for Southwestern Bell. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, especially trout fishing with his buddies and rabbit and deer hunting. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed socializing, dancing and music. Edwin was a great friend to all and was a close friend to Gene Blankenship, Bob Sappington, Don Hines, and Randy Bacon, Doug Schalk and Terry Bell.
He is survived by three sons, Edwin Schmidt, Jr. and wife Susan, Eric Schmidt and wife Danna and Hunter Schmidt all of Sullivan; three daughters, Vivian Dudley and husband Clifton of Sullivan, Carrie George and husband Timothy of St. Clair, Missouri and Alexis Schmidt of Sullivan; three brothers, Michael Schmidt and special friend Debbie of Leslie, Missouri, Mark Schmidt and special friend Margaret of Sullivan, and David Schmidt and wife Jennifer of Sullivan; six sisters, Susan Heath and husband Bill of Sullivan, Ellen Brandt and husband Keith of Sullivan, Kathy Creek and husband Don of Leslie, Mary Beth Sappington of Sullivan, Julie Shetley and husband Blaine of Sullivan and Francine Collins and husband Tom of Springfield, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, Edwin was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Nutting.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., from the First Presbyterian Church in Sullivan with James Eaton officiating. Interment with full military honors was held in Schmidt Cemetery, rural Sullivan. Visitation was held Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Southside Chapel, 301 Sappington Bridge Road in Sullivan. In lieu of flowers, the family desires memorials to Saint Louis Children’s Hospital or the American Heart Association.
