The old man Pixley that was murdered and body partially devoured by hogs was Plummer Pixley. I have Pixley family papers transcribed from the late Rev. Gilbert Pixley's recollection of his conversation with his grandfather, William Harrison Pixley that indicate Plummer's older sons who upon returning from war learned about their father's demise, looked into who committed the crime, and took matters into their own hands to repay the deed. It was said they knew who had done it, "a neighbor, the man who lived behind their farm. Him and his boy that done the work." I am trying to correlate some in- congruencies in family recollections and events documented in the death of Plummer as well as the death of Gen. Joseph Bailey at the hand of a "Lewis and Perry Pixley" former Missouri Guerillas. The two events may be unrelated but I suspect it's the same two sons of Plummer Pixley listed in census records.
