Hello. I am hoping that someone might be able to provide some input on William Isaac "Ike" Chaney, Sr., my great grandfather. My research shows that he is the oldest child of John Francis Chaney and Eliza Ann Duease (Deweese/Dewease).
John Francis Chaney married Eliza Ann Duease (Deweese/Dewease) on December 21, 1879 in Sharkey County, Mississippi. Five children were born of their union:
1882: William Isaac “Ike” Chaney, Sr.
1884: Thomas Young “Tom” Chaney
1890: Katie Frances Chaney
1893: Rogair (Rogan/Logan) Chaney
1895: Martha Ann “Mattie” Chaney
I received a copy of Ike's death certificate and, much to my surprise, Eliza is NOT referenced as his mother. It only says "Powell." The other siblings death certificates reference Eliza as their mother. So, I am puzzled. My DNA results did not show any matches to a Powell.
In questioning family members, I have now discovered that years ago this was a touchy subject between two relatives...one who believed Eliza was the mother and one who believed a Powell from Vicksburg was the mother. Both of these relatives have since passed away and left no records that I am aware of.
Does anyone have any input/suggestions? I have attached a copy of Ike's death certificate.
Thank you all kindly.
