Nathan, I believe they were two different persons. Here is some documentation that indicates Mary Emily McClelland married William Nick Muirhead. What might you have that shows Anna was actually the daughter of William MacDonald Muirhead, and that his first wife was Mary Emily McClelland? According to my info, Mary and Wm. N. Muirhead married young and were together their whole lives. I welcome any new information you may have.

Saron Cemetery, Holmes County, MS. Buried next to each other:
MUIRHEAD, Mary McClellan b. Nov 24, 186l d. Feb 15, 1944
MUIRHEAD, Wm. N. b. Aug 8, 186l d. July 18, 1937

From The Advertisor, Lexington Mississippi, Thursday November 12, 1936. (The author would have learned this directly from Mary Emily McClelland and Wm. N. Muirhead):
"Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Muirhead. They are an elderly couple, both having arrived at the ripe age of seventy-five. They were married 57 years ago at the age of eighteen years and have raised an average family of children. Mrs. Muirhead was a Miss McLelland, a daughter of John McClelland of Attala County, who moved over into Holmes and this aged couple were school-mates and childhood sweethearts"
