Former Red Lake Falls Resident Stricken By Paralysis Sunday. Buried Here

Simon Patnode, for many years a resident of Red Lake Falls, died from a stroke of paralysis at his home at Rainy River, Ont. Sunday evening. He had had several strokes previously and his health was such that a fatal stroke had been expected for some time.
He was born in Quebec March 30, 1845 and removed from Canada to Illinois when a small boy, coming to Minneapolis in 1854. He was married in 1873 at Corcoran town, Hennepin County to Philomene Huot who died in 1879. Four children were born to them; Olivene (Mrs., Jos. LaPlante) of Yakima, Wash.; Margaret (Mrs. J. W. Haggens) of St Paul; Louis, of Rainy River, Ont., and Victor E., of St Paul.
Mr. and Mrs. Patnode moved to Red Lake County in 1875, coming in by ox team. They took a homestead west of Red Lake Falls. They took a homestead west of Red Lake Falls. Four years after the death of his first wife, Mr. Patnode married again, his second wife being Miss Adele Clement, who survives him. Four children were born to the second union, all of whom died in childhood.
Coming to Red Lake Falls in 1820, (Note; this is a mistake, must mean 1880) Mr. Patnode operated a blacksmith shop here until 1904 when he sold out and moved to Rainy River where his son Louis was living, and he since made his home there.
The remains arrived here Tuesday afternoon accompanied by Mrs. Adele Patnode and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Patnode. V. E. Patnode arrived Tuesday morning from St. Paul.
The funeral services were held Wednesday morning from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in this city, solemn high mass being celebrated by Rev. E. J. Lemire, Rev. Thos. G. Merrill and Rev. Fr. Paquin. Burial was in the cemetery east of the city. A large number of friends and relatives attended the services. The Pallbearers were August Morin, Jos. Cyr, Frank Grenier, Francois Lambert, and Leon Huot.
