Gordon Maxwell Boyce, age 79, of Hinckley, MN passed away on March 16, 2018 in his home with his wife and family by his side.
Gordon, or Gordy as most know him, was born in Harris, MN to Maxwell "Max" and Ethel Boyce on March 15, 1939. He was their first born and was followed by three brothers and two sisters. He moved with his family to North Branch when he was in grade school and later obtained his GED. In January 1958, he joined the Navy and became an Electrician's Mate 1st Class on the U.S.S. Mount McKinley. While in the Navy, he married the love of his life, Betty Eells, on April 11, 1961. Gordy and Betty had three kids prior to his honorable discharge from the Navy on May 1st, 1967. He and his family then moved to Wyoming, MN where they grew their family by adding two more daughters. He and Betty raised their children in Wyoming as he worked as an electrician for multiple agencies. He retired from Thomas Engineering in 2001. In 2004, Gordy and Betty moved to Hinckley, MN to retire.
Gordy was married to Betty for almost 57 years. Their dedication and love for each other was inspiring to friends and family. They were rarely seen without each other. Some of their activities included fishing, cooking/ baking (grandpa was known for his peanut butter cookies!), and going out with friends.
Gordy had many hobbies including bird watching, fishing, hunting, playing with his grandchildren/ great grandchildren, playing cribbage, and watching sports including; hockey, basketball, football, baseball, golf and Nascar. He truly enjoyed all sports and was more than happy to cheer on any Minnesota team!
Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell and Ethel Boyce; his sister Annette Dressel and his aunts and uncles. He is survived by his loving wife and partner, Betty; his brothers Gene "Bud" (Nancy K) Boyce, Glen (Nancy) Boyce, Hardy (Penny) Boyce; his sister Diane (Steve) Perrault; his children, Greg Boyce, Darrel (Joan) Boyce, Jodi (Dan) Blesener, Tracy (Kevin) Schutt, Sheri (Andy) Valleen; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
A prayer service will be held for Gordy at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Methven Funeral Home in Sandstone, MN with Father Joseph Sirba officiating. Visitation will take place from 10-11:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Military honors are being provided by the Sandstone Honor Guard.
