Roger Harold Newman was born June 27, 1938 in Owatonna, MN to Harold and Ida (Peterson) Newman. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Curch in Askov, MN and graduated from Askov High School with the Class of 1956.
Roger served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, Cuban Crisis and Berlin Crisis. He retired from the Navy in 1977 as a Chief Petty Officer.
After his retirement from the Navy, Roger lived in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He was employed at a shipyard in Charleston, SC, working on both civilian and military naval vessels. In 2002, he moved to rural Annandale, MN. He was a member of the Kimball American Legion Post 261. He enjoyed wildlife, fishing, gardening, cooking, TV and listening to old time music on the RFD (Rural Free Delivery) channel.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Pearl Miner and Judy Marquette, brothers David and Jerry Newman, brother-in-law Paul Miner and special friend, Rosie Scrughan.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters and their spouses, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Full military honors were provided at his burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
