Gretchen Harvey, age 81, of Finlayson, went home to be with her Lord on December 3, 2017.
Gretchen Rita Louise (Schultz) Harvey was born on May 18, 1936 in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, to Charles and Leone Schultz. When she was a child her family moved to the Finlayson area, where she attended school.
On October 31, 1954 Gretchen met Frederic Sailor Harvey II, he proposed on Christmas, and the couple was married on June 4, 1955 at the Lutheran Church in Giese.
Gretchen and Fred loved taking fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. She held her children and many foster children near and dear to her heart. She was always engaging with them in many different activities and spoke very fondly of those times. Gretchen and Fred owned and operated Homestead Orchard in Independence, MN for 35 years. There they raised Arabian horses, as well as, many other various farm animals. Gretchen loved horses, along with her sheep, goats and chickens, animals were a big love of hers.
She was always cooking, whether it was dinners for family, and employees at the orchard, or the apple pies and fudge to be sold, which sometimes amounted to 20 pies a day. They moved back to the Finlayson area in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, daughter Laurinda, son Charles, granddaughter Kandice, parents Charles and Leone Schultz.
She is survived by son Frederic Harvey, Jr., daughters Libby Boone, Kentress Peterson, grandsons Ryan Molloy, Christopher Molloy, granddaughters Avaria Rose, Raellan Ivy, Lylliah Azalia, Elina Marie, as well as nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Celebration of Life, 11:00am Friday, December 8, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Finlayson, with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial at Finnish Lutheran Cemetery, Finlayson, MN.
