After a long struggle with medical issues, Frank Arlen Krantz of Sandstone, MN died early Thursday morning, September 21, 2017, surrounded by family at Essentia Health in Sandstone. He was 76 years old.
Arlen was born on October 15, 1941 and lived a full, eventful life in Sandstone. After high school, he served in the Army National Guard in which time he married his wife, Karen in 1967. Shortly after he was married he ended his career in the National Guard. He started working at Don Hejny Ford in 1965, until he purchased the dealership in 1986 where he was one of the first to receive the presidents award from Ford Motor Co. He was involved with the Moose Lodge and supported many other organizations. He became a volunteer firefighter on the Sandstone department where he served as Trustee, 1st and 2nd Lieutenant, Assistant Chief, and Chief from 1977 -2000. He enjoyed spending time up at his old farm land in Askov with his family, where he liked to watch his kids and grandchildren ride his Ford tractors, and have a faithful dog playing by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff and Nanna Krantz; step mother, Agnes; son, Jeffrey; brother-in-law, Russ; niece, Kim.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen (Jorgensen) Krantz; son, Jason (Catherine) Krantz; son, James; daughter-in-law, Heather (JR) Krantz Reed; grandchildren, Megan, Brian, Brianna, and Noah; step grandchildren, Luke and Jake Reed; his brother, Galen (Verna) Krantz; sister, Joan Braun.
Visitation will be from 6 -8 P.M. at Methven Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 29. The funeral will be held at 11 am, Saturday, Sept. 30, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sandstone
