LOUISE CAROLYN SMITH LUNDORFF, age 90, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.
Born December 27, 1926, child of Newell and Eleanor Smith in Sandstone, MN. Louise attended school all 12 grades in Sandstone, graduating in 1944 and then went to work in the office for Hill Field in Ogden, Utah. In 1945, she returned to Minnesota to attend college at Macalester in St. Paul.
Louise married Irvin Lundorff in September 1946. She continued her college education at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, graduating with honors with a BS degree in 1971, MED in 1975 and then accepted a position of Resource teacher in Thompson, Manitoba, Canada. Irvin and Louise stayed there for two years until moving to Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada. She “presented” workshops for teachers at Thompson, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Portland, International Reading Association and many small workshops in her school district.
They returned to Minnesota after 21 years in Canada and picked Grand Rapids, for their sunset years. Irvin passed away in 2008.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Irvin; 2 sisters; and a brother.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Paula (Robert) Ross of Grand Rapids, MN; two sons, Thomas (Carol) Lundorff of Sun Valley, NV and Timothy (Bonnie) Lundorff of Bemidji, MN; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 18th from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids and will continue on Monday, June 19th at Zion Lutheran Church from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service. Rev. Ben Buchanan will officiate. Burial will be beside Irvin at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
