Kenton Dale Larson died at his home in Mora on Tuesday, June 20, 2006, surrounded by his family. He was 74 years old.

He was born Feb. 5, 1932, in Minneapolis, the only child of Mathilda and John Larson.

He spent his early years in Edina until moving with his parents to a dairy farm in Almelund.

He graduated from Taylors Falls High School and then attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis where he graduated in 1954 with a major in philosophy.

He followed his calling to serve the Lord and entered The Augustana Seminary in Rock Island, IL.

He was ordained in Jamestown, NY on June 22, 1958.

He was united in marriage on Aug. 10, 1957, to Mary Eikens in Warren.

Three children were born of this union. Karen, Daniel and Catherine.

With the love and support of this family, he was able to fulfill his service to the Lord by serving in Augustana and Clear Lake Lutheran Churches in Gibbon, from 1958 to 1962. Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, from 1962 to 1965, Christ Lutheran Church in Blaine, from 1965 to 1969, First Lutheran Church, Hector, from 1969 to 1982; and Grace Lutheran Church in Mora, from 1982 to 1988.

He cherished his role as pastor and freely used his talents to comfort and encourage all those who came to him for spiritual guidance.

He was an excellent listener, mentor, and offered the message of hope, faith and encouragement to all he encountered. He showed loving patience to countless people who were blessed to have known him.

He was forced into early retirement with the onset of Parkinson’s Disease, which eventually required many years of home care.

His positive spirit and sense of humor remained vibrant through this long journey. God granted him a deep love and appreciation of music and with the ability to transcend and rise above his limitations and to enjoy each day as much as he could.

He endured his illness with grace and continued to share his gifts as much as his physical condition allowed. His wife Mary shared this journey with him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mathilda Larson.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Larson of Mora; daughter, Karen Larson of Mora,; son, Daniel (Cristy) Larson of Swisher, Iowa; daughter, Catherine Larson of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; and two grandsons, Blake and Chase Larson, also fro Swisher, Iowa.

Memorials are preferred in Kenton’s memory to Mayo Clinic Parkinson’s Research. Kanabec County Hospice or Cambridge Lutheran Church.

He was a unique gift from heaven. He will truly be missed but will always remain in our hearts.

Funeral services were held on Sat. June 24, 2006, at Cambridge Lutheran Church with the Rev. Erline Tungseth officiating. Music was provided by Keith Lester and Elaine Johnson.

Pallbearers were Guy Groschen, Ty Groschen, Susie Groschen, Jennifer Buckley, Jamie Rocheford, Lisa Nelson and Rob Stinar.

Burial was at the Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery.
