Services for Henry Elmer, 101 were Friday, Nov. 12, 1993 at 11 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, Clayton, with the Rev. David Almlie officiating.
Soloist was Heidi Paulson accompanied by Velma Larson.
Casketbearers were Theresa Rendler, Tim Elmer, Nathan Elmer, Rodney Olson, and Andy Van Heuklom.
Interment was in the West Clayton Covenant Cemetery with the Williamson Funeral Home of Amery in charge.
Henry Elmer was born on Nov. 11, 1891, in Wells, Minnesota, the son of Herman and Caroline Elmer. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wells.
As a young man he ran a steam engine for a grain separator.
On March 10, 1922, he was married to Lillian Peterson in Minneapolis, and four children were born. They operated a farm in West Clayton for many years. When he left the farm he moved into Clayton, where he lived until going to the Golden Age Manor this June.
He was an Electrolux salesman for 30 years.
He was also a very active member of the West Clayton Covenant Church, serving many years as a board member, janitor and in any way he could. After moving to Clayton, he belonged to Faith Lutheran Church.
He played the violin for many years and, at the age of 90, learned the piano and played his violin with the Elmer Family Band.
Mr. Elmer died on Monday, Nov. 8.
He was preceded in death by his parents, (Herman and Caroline (Biesterfeld) Elmer of Wells, MN, wife; Lillian (Peterson) Elmer, three brothers; Herman (Emma) Elmer of Amery, WI, William (Minnie) Elmer of Wells, MN, Theodore (Matilda) Elmer of Wells, MN, two sisters; Lillian (Henry) Tatge of Wells, MN, and Tillie (Chris) Johannsen of Wells, MN, and a grandson; Peter Van Heuklom of Clayton, WI.
Survivors include son, Kenneth (Helen) Elmer, of Clayton; daughters, Eileen (Tom) Rendler of Denver, CO., Carol (Steve) Van Heuklom of Amery, WI, and Myrna (Ted) Olson of Clear Lake, WI. Also 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
