MONK, Robert John, Jr.
Mr. Monk died early on the morning of June 10th. Born on September 26, 1957 in Shirley, MA., Mr. Monk Attended elementary, middle and 2 years of high school in Iran, Spain and Mexico City, Mexico. He finished high school in Gambrills, MD in 1976. Mr. Monk joined the U.S. Army and attended the Military Police Academy in Alabama. After 3 years of duty in Panama and the Far East, he changed his MOS and was assigned an EOD unit in the Washington, DC area. He received an honorable discharge in 1983. Before becoming a resident of Kalamazoo in 1996, Mr. Monk owned a flowers shop in Washington, DC and a home improvement business in Virginia for several years. While in Kalamazoo, Mr. Monk owned a limousine service. He is survived by two daughters, Shannyn McKenna Monk of Kalamazoo and Mayalene Barbier Monk of Virginia; parents, Robert John Monk, Sr. and Bonnie Monk of Odenton, MD; a sister, Betty Seibel of Ft. Worth, TX; and 2 brothers, Michael and David Monk of Maryland. A private service was held and final rites were administered by Fr. Cottle, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. An interment service will be held at the Veterans National Cemetery in Crownsville, MD. www.langelands.com
