Was dist. from Civil War 8/23/1864 from 6th Infantry Co.B.Was the second white man in Berrien Co., came in the spring of 1824-his father followed in the fall.He came with his brother Jacob,Joel Yard,John Lybrook,Squire Thompson.He was engaged in clearing land for Squire Thompson and maybe John Lybrook,whose sister he married.He built a log cabin on 80 acres in section 29 Berrien Twp. before marrying Ann Lybrook.First white man in Berrien Twp.and the second permanent settler of the County.Also worked for awhile at the Carey Mission where he used his shoemaking skills.Clayton H. Walker has his Civil War bayonette.1850 in Berrien Co. Div 10
