Classification: Query
Surnames: SCHNEYER, SCHNEIER, SNYRE, SNYER, SNAIR
No one knew how to spell their name!
1860 Census for Stockbridge, Berkshire, MA listed two families - Frederick & Catharine SNAIR and Nicholas & Margaret SNAIR, living next door to each other.
Frederick's family was - Frederick 38 yrs, Catharine 42 yrs, Caroline 6 yrs, Frederick 4 yrs, Amelia 2 yrs.
Nicholas' family was - Nicholas 48 yrs, Margaret 29 yrs, George 4 yrs.
Both men's birth place was Sax. Coburg (Saxony).
Both women's birthplace was Sax. Meiningen (Saxony).

1861 - the next year, Frederick & Catharine had a son, Henry born and their name was listed as SNYRE. They're residents of Stockbridge and both parents are listed as born in Prussia.

1870 - Frederick & Catharine SCHNEYER are in Shellsburg, Benton Co, Iowa, census as farmers and the children all born in Mass. This is where we started with existing family records, with most records showing SCHNEYER as the family name. All very interesting!!!

Does anyone know of these families? I sure would love to hear from you!! Thanks so very much!
