Hi, Steve
It looks to me as though Richard might not have been born in Maine, but rather in Pennsylvania.

I found an online tree - yes, I know...not often reliable, but it gives Hamilton Township, Maine, and there is no such place. But there is a Hamilton Township in Maineville, Pennsylvania, and there are a lot of Danvers folks in PA. If you were looking at an index, Hamilton might have been morphed by the transcriber into Houlton, and Maineville might have gotten chopped off to Maine.

By the way, the tree gave a birth date, for what it's worth, of 26 November 1875. Not sourced. That tree has him married to Ellen Allen, native of Tipperary, Ireland, born 26 Aug 1877.

Hope this info will be of help!
Pam (in Maine, who is attempting to amass a database of archaic Maine place names, and Hamilton Township didn't ring a bell, not that there isn't one...)
