Bessie M. Zeyzus, 80, of Columbus, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in Corry Manor nursing home.
Mrs. Zeyzus was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Morgan City, a daughter of the late John and Emily Price Gorsha.
She was raised and educated in Morgan City. She moved to Toledo, Ohio, in 1946 and lived there until she moved to Columbus, Pa., in 1958. Mrs. Zeyzus was a machine operator at Associated Spring-Barnes Group Inc. and a member of the UAW. She retired in 1986, following 23 years of service with the company.
Mrs. Zeyzus was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church.
Mrs. Zeyzus was a volunteer at the Soldiers and Sailors Home and the VA Medical Center, both in Erie, Pa.
She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Mrs. Zeyzus was very active in the local Democratic Party and in politics.
Mrs. Zeyzus enjoyed yard work, and flower and vegetable gardening. She also enjoyed cooking for family and friends, reading mysteries and listening to music. Mrs. Zeyzus made beautiful artificial floral arrangements and holiday decorations.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore T. Zeyzus, on Aug. 4, 1999. They were married April 25, 1942, in Morgan City.
Also preceding her in death was a son-in-law, Leslie E. Munson;
four sisters, 1. Geneva Carpenter, 2. Thelma Mula,
3. ELDORA SIMMONS and 4. Jeannette Gorsha; and two brothers, John and Denver Gorsha.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Z. Munson of Lakewood, N.Y., and Regina M. Zeyzus of Columbus, Pa.; a sister, Amy Robicheaux and her husband, Merwin, of Bayou Vista; two brothers, Newton Gorsha and his wife, Phyllis, of Alexandria, and Russell Gorsha and his wife, Barbara, of Swanton, Ohio. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center Street, Corry, Pa., on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A scripture service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. A prayer service will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church at noon. The Rev. Thomas E. Brown will officiate the service.
Burial will be in Clymer Center Cemetery, Clymer, N.Y.
