Obit of William Ezekiel Welch

Grandpa Welch, One of Few Surviving Confederate Veterens, Dies in Jennings
Funeral services for William Ezekiel Welch, 92-year old Confederate veteran, who died July 13, were held Saturday with military rites at the First Methodist church in Jennings, Louisiana with the Reverend Myers and Reverend Faulk officiating. Burial was made in the Cavalry cemetery at Jennings. /p/ He was born in Copia county, Mississippi, October 5, 1841. At the age of 20 years he enlisted in the Civil war with Co. F, 2nd Arkansas Infantry, and was mustered out at Marshall, Tex., in 1865. /p/ In 1872 he was married to Miss Annie Elizabeth Hurd and to this union was born eleven children. /p/ He was a prominent farmer having resided for the past 51 years in Acadia and Jeff Davis parishes. /p/ Besides his widow the following children survive; William and Josh of Jennings; Ellis and Ruby of Crowley; Joe and Raymond of Nederland, Tex.; Eldridge of Vinton; Mrs. Frank Lytle of Beaumont; Mrs. R. R. McClelland of Elton; Mrs. W. T. Parker of Jennings. He also is survived by 31 grandchildren and seven great grand-children. /p/ He was a grandfather of R. W. McClelland of Crowley. The library in Jennings does not have the newspapers for the years of 1933 and 1942; she was not listed in a Crowley paper.
