It's an old term (used in the XIV and XV centuries in Spain) comes from "laurel" (the aromatic tree) and it refers to the light brown colour mixed with green (like the leaves once you dried them). So, an slave of "color loro", used to be applied to very different people: Arabs, Gipsies, American Indians (and "mestizos"), but specially to "mulatos" (born from a black parent and a white parent)
