Francois Saucier was born in Mobile about 1712. His father Jean Baptiste Saucier died about 1716 and his mother--Marie Gabrielle Savary (Savarit)--remarried twice in the next five years: first to Pierre Vifvareinne (Vivarenne) about 1717 and to Jean Baptiste Sansot dit La Grange in 1719. The family moved to New Orleans about 1722. Francois drew one of the early maps of New Orleans in 1728 (Archives des Colonies, FR) when he was just a teenager. The map is still in existence.

About 1730, Francois's older brother, Henri, went to Illinois and, while there, he married Barbe LaCroix. Later other brothers followed, including Francois. Francois was the engineer who was commissioned to rebuild Fort de Chartres.

Francois died 26 Feb. 1757 at Fort de Chartres, Illinois Territory.

He married Marie Jeanne Fontaille on 25 Nov. 1743 Mobile. They had six children:

Jean François (1743-1821)
Mathieu (1745- )
Cézar Philippe {twin} (1748-c. 1749)
Marie {twin} (1748-1803)
Jean Baptiste (1751-1808)
Jeanne Félicité (1754-1816)

I hope this helps anyone researching this family!
