Joel E. Ogden Retires After Forty-Nine Years with Bank - 1959

Joel E. Ogden, after being connected with the Farmers and Merchants Bank at Slaughters, has retired.
Mr. Ogden, 66, started as bookeeper with the bank in 1910, progressing to assistant cashier, cashier, and had served as president for five and one-half years.
John R. Jones has returned to the bank as cashier and assumed his duties on Tuesday of last week. Mr. Jones had been serving as cashier of the Farmers Bank in Clay since February 1 but had previously been connected with the Slaughters Bank.
Mr. Jones has purchased Mr. Ogden's interest in Ogden and Jones Insurance Agency, which they have operated for several years.
William J. Coffman of Madisonville is president of the Slaughters bank. He purchased Mr. Ogden's stock March 1.
Mr. Ogden is an extensive land owner, having some 1,000 acres on four farms, all in the Slaughters section. He is the son of the late W.H. and Pearl Parker Ogden. His father also served as president of the bank.
