William Ralph Beals
William Ralph Beals, 70, Corydon, passed away at 6:21 a.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Lucy Smith King Care Center.
Mr. Beals was an Air Force veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era. In 1962, he married Shirley O’Dell at Audubon Baptist Parsonage in Henderson by the Rev. Dillard West. He then started working for Southern Bell in 1967 until retiring in 2001 with AT&T. William was a deacon for nine years at By Faith General Baptist Church, where he was also the building fund coordinator for eight years. He was past exulted ruler of the Elks Lodge No. 206 and a Kentucky Colonel.
In his spare time, William enjoyed scuba diving, playing his guitar, singing, gardening and giving fresh produce to friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing and watching sporting events.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Shirley; two sons, Darrell Beals of Belleville, Ill., and Brian Beals of Ocean Springs, Miss.; one brother, Aaron Lee Beals of Henderson; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church, 8959 U.S. 60-East, Henderson. The Rev. J. Keith Hurt, the Rev. John Smith and the Rev. Don Haire will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post No. 40.
