Pauline F. Carr, 97, Pawnee Drive died at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at her residence of natural causes.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with Rev. Ron Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Flat Lick Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home.

A native of Trigg County, KY, she was born December 21, 1914, the daughter of the late Harl C. Futrell and Irwin Wilson Futrell. Her father served on the Trigg County School Board for many years and her mother was a teacher.

She attended Roaring Springs School and graduated from Trigg County High School. She went on to attend Murray State University, but later graduated from Austin Peay State University.

Following in her family’s footsteps she started teaching at the age of 19. She taught in one room schools: Saline Creek, Highland Chapel, and Joiners Chapel. She later taught at Sinking Fork and then became one of the first teachers and the last surviving original teacher at Millbrooke Elementary School.

She was a member of the Kentucky Education Association, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Christian County Retired Teachers Association, and Henderson Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Hayden Carr; her brother: Clayton Futrell; and her sister: Mabel F. Martin.

Survivors include her children: Nina Carr Horn (Wiley) and James R. Carr (Kathy) both of Hopkinsville; her sister: Mildred Humphreys of Hopkinsville; her grandchildren: Brian Daniel (Karen), Scott Daniel (DeAnna), Jarod “Jay” Carr, and Brice Carr; her great grandchildren: Ashton Daniel, Schuyler Daniel, Lauren Daniel, Hayden Daniel, and Davenport Daniel; and one great great granddaughter: Aubrey Elizabeth Moore.
