James Claud “J.C.” Petty, 79, of Hickory Valley, Tenn., died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at 4 a.m. at his home.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Pickwick Methodist Church, a Mason, a member of the Lions Club and W.O.W., as well as the volunteer fire department of Counce, Tenn., for 12-14 years, who was retired from the Corps of Engineers, he was born May 27, 1927, in Grand Rivers, a son of the late James Aud and Ruby Scott Petty.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Lovette in 2004; and a sister, Dorothy Fulks.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Aldridge Petty; two sons and daughters-in-law, James R. and Carol Petty of Hickory Valley, Tenn., and Gary and Mary Petty of Humboldt, Tenn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Andreda and Eddy Joe Blakney of Counce, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Jeff, Biranda, Shanna, Alysia, Kecia and Megan; six great-grandchildren, Emmie, Brooke, Esabella, Paige, Gracie and Landon; and two sisters, Zella Blick of Princeton, and Juanita Aldridge of Kuttawa.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Chapel of Savannah, Tenn., with the Rev. Eulas Greer officiating, assisted by the Rev. Haley.
Burial with military graveside services followed at Pisgah Cemetery in Shiloh, Tenn.
