JAMES RILEY (JIM GRITTER)1 BEARD (JOSHUAA, WILLIAM FRANKLINB, JOSEPHC, JOHND, ANDREWE) was born 20 May 1867 in Upper Brush Creek, Green County, Kentucky, and died 15 Jul 1946 in Buried in Auburn Cemetery in Auburn, Illinois. He married LAURA (LAURETTA) E. PRICE 16 Jul 1890 in LaRue County, Kentucky. He was 22 she was 21 years old, daughter of THOMAS PRICE and JUDITH HARRIS. She was born 16 Feb 1869 in Kentucky, and died 26 Nov 1954 in Buried in Auburn Cemetery in Auburn, Illinois.

In the 1910 LaRue Count census, Otter District, James R. Baird is head of household 191. He was 44 years old and his wife, Lauretta, was 44. The children were: Sammie 10; Oscar, 8; Rosa E., 6; and Birtie C., 3 years of age.

Nancy Beard, the 7 year old daughter of Jim Beard of near Maple in Taylor County., died Thursday. Was burned to death when her clothes caught fire on Saturday. Burial at Mt. Zion Church in Taylor County.

''A sad occurrence happened at maple, this county, last Thursday, Nancy Beard the seven year old daughter of Jim Beard, was standing by a stove washing dishes when her clothes
caught fire. She ran out of the house and did not stop running until every vestment of clothing was burned off. Her body was charred from her knees to her neck. She survived until Saturday night, when death relieved her of her suffering. The parents were not at home when the burning occurred. She was buried at the Mt. Zion church.''

From a newspaper clipping:
The remains of John Jena Beard, an oversea soldier who died of pneumonia during the war were brought to Hodgenville last Saturday. The remains were brought to the home of his mother, Mrs. Laura Beard, where they were opened and identified.
The body was taken to the cemetery at Levelwoods Church, and with appropriate ceremony was interred.
It had been three years to the day since he left. The mothers of the boys who lost their lives will be better satisfied when they are brought back to the family cemeteries where their last resting place can be visited.
