On Sunday, November 24, 1895, John F. Sheriff gave up his life and his spirit and entered the Great Beyond. He was born in Londonderry County, Ireland, December 11, 1817, being the 5th son of a family of eleven children. In 1837 he emigrated with his parents to the United States locating in in Cincinnati. In 1838 his father bought a farm in this county and the family located on it. The son came to Williamstown and accepted a position in the dry goods establishment of N. C. Tunis, which he held two years, when he purchased a half interest in the business. The following year he secured control of the entire business, which he successfully conducted until 1866, when he sold out his mercantile business to J. H. Webb. He then bought a farm where he passed his old age in peace and quite.
