Joseph “Joe” Franklin Pickens, 89, of Caldwell County, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at his home per his wishes.

Born on Sept. 11, 1923, in Princeton, Ky., he was the son of the late Libert Dow and James Myrtle Pickens.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Gray Pickens; his sisters, Margaret Louise Pickens and Mary Elizabeth Pickens; and brothers, Libert Dow Pickens Jr. and James Edward Pickens.

Survivors include two daughters, Anna Jo Pickens Wyman (Will) of Evansville, Ind., and Tracy Pickens Miller (Raymond) of Shelby ville; and five grandchildren, Joseph Orlando Wyman, Emily Ann Wyman, Molly Pickens Wyman, Reagan Joe Miller and Haley Valenta Miller, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition, he leaves behind a very devoted and beloved friend, Peggy D. Mitchell.

Mr. Pickens was very honored and proud to have served his country in WWII. He was a member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church, United Mine Workers of America and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was an exceptional father, grandfather and uplifting friend to all who knew him. His lifelong loyalty and support to the University of Kentucky was one of his main activities.

Pallbearers include Will Wyman, Joseph Wyman, Raymond Miller, Reagan Miller, Wayne Cash, Rick Morgan and Ricky Scott.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until funeral time on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. (Princeton, Ky.)
