JACOB HACKETT is a representative of the substantial agricultural interests of Madison county and a citizen whose worth is further recognized in his services as a magistrate of the county. A native son of the county, he was born on the farm which is his resent homestead on September 24, 1862. His parents were Oren and Jemima (Simmons) Hackett, both of whom were natives of this county, and after their marriage they located on the farm which is now owned and occupied by their son Squire Hackett. The father died at the old home when fifty-two years old. Of the three children, the two who reached manhood were Jacob and T. B.

Jacob Hackett grew up on the home place, received his education in the local schools of Madison county, and has been a successful farmer of the two hundred and forty-six acres comprising the Hackett estate. In January, 1910, he began serving as magistrate, an office which he has honored with the solid integrity that has characterized his entire career.

Mr. Hackett was first married to Miss Alice Green, a native of Madison county. At her death she left four children: Leonah, wife of Joseph F. Oldham; Ora; Bessie, wife of David Cobb; and Margaret. On January 22, 1901, Mr. Hackett married Miss Lida Green. She was born in Madison county, March 26, 1873, being fifth in a family of nine children born to Martin and Ann (Hill) Green. Her mother died in this county June 30, 1880, aged forty-three years. Mr. and Ms. Hackett had had one child, Ann Hill Hackett.
