Arthur O. Carter HALSTEAD -- Arthur O. Carter, 96, retired assistant postmaster at the Halstead Post Office, died Tuesday (Jan. 2, 2001) at Halstead Place Assisted Living Center.
He was born March 21, 1904, to Robert L. and Florence O. (Moore) Carter in Halstead. He married Constance V. Amos Aug. 8, 1925, in Carthage, Mo. She preceded him in death Aug. 28, 1984.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, former Lions Club, Oddfellows Lodge, Elks Club and he was a volunteer fireman in Halstead. He was a lifetime Halstead area resident.
Survivors include: a son, Robert M. Carter of Wichita; five grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by: a daughter, Connie Jane Hiser; two brothers, Mark Carter and Knolton "Jack" Carter; and three sisters, Vivian Sheffler, Telva Nichols and Elsie Krause.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Halstead with the Rev. James Mardock officiating.
Burial will be in Halstead Cemetery.
