Funeral services for 84 year old Duane "George" Richards of Columbus Junction, Iowa, will be on Thursday, July 6, at 1:30 pm at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery.
Visitation was held Wednesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home from 4-8 pm with the famly present from 6-8. Masonic services were held at 7:30 pm Wednesday.
George died Monday afternoon at the Colonial Manor Care Center, Columbus Junction.
A memorial has been established at the funeral home.
George Richards was born October 18, 1915 near Cotter, Iowa to Edwin and Edith Jones Richards. George was a 1932 graduate of Cotter High School. He married Evelyn Louisa Woodruff on December 23, 1948 in Princeton, Illinois.
George was a WWII Army Veteran serving overseas.
George had worked for Farm Service as a fertilizer plant manager until his retirement in 1980.
George was a member of the Columbus Junction United Presbyterian Church, the Allen Wright Hanft Post #100 of the American Legion, the Columbus City, Masonic Lodge #107 A.F. & A.M. and the Kaaba Shrine and Davenport Consistory.
George is survived by his three daughters, Kathy Masonholder and her husband Merle, Waukesha, Wisconsin, Cindy Morse and her husband Robert, Winfield, and Sue Jennings and her husband, John, Iowa City. There are five granddaughters.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister, Gladys Thomas.
