I came across your post and may have information for you. My g-g-grandfather was Lewis Franklin Magers. According to information I have, he was born in Warren County, KY and died in Jacksboro, Jack County, Texas on 4 Jan 1904. There is a family history book called "Generation to Generation" compiled by Marjorie Ella Woolsey McClure in May 1980.
It starts with "Lewis Franklin Magers and Fannie Goolsby had two children, John Franklin and Louella Emaline. Fannie died in 1884, leaving two small children, John almost three and Ella one year old. He remarried and had three daughters, Jessie, Eunice, and Mattie. Lewis had a daughter by a previous marriage; Elizabeth (Lizzie) Magers."
I don't know if this information is helpful to you or not, but thought I'd share. I have recently done the Ancestry DNA test and recently received my results. If your husband were to do this test it may let him know more information.
