THIES, MARY JANE (STONE)
Mary Jane (Stone) Thies was born November 14, 1946, the daughter of John Woodfred Stone and Phyllis Lorraine Hast. She died at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa on Monday, June 29, 2009, at the age of sixty-two years, seven months, and fifteen days.
Mary was born at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on August 17,1947, at Faith Lutheran Church in Deloit, Iowa and later confirmed there on April 10, 1960. She graduated from the Ar-We-Va Schools in 1964. She subsequently was married to Donald Graham. They later divorced. This union resulted in three children, Donald Jr., Rex, and Amy.
On December 5, 1975, Mary was united in marriage to Larry Thies. This union was blessed in one child, Jennifer. Mary worked for Family Planning of Crawford County and truck driver for Tent Inc. Also worked for Farmland Foods, Kum & Go, Coastal, Winna Vegas Casino, and was the former co-owner of Smokes-N-More.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved crocheting, camping and fishing. She was always looking forward to her next trip to the casino.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, John Stone; her grandparents, August and Emma Hast, Thomas and Berta Stone; step-grandchild, Jordyn Thies and one step-child, Lori Thies. She is survived by her mother, Molly and step-father, Norman; her husband, Larry; two brothers, Russell and his wife, Carol; Larry and his wife, Donna; her children, Donald Jr.; Rex; Amy and her husband, Kenneth; Jennifer and her fianc�, Chad; her step-children, Cory and Jeff and his wife, Timbra. Her four grandchildren, Alex and Beth, Autumn, and Grace; her five step-grandchildren, Brady and Brinkley, Jeremy, Kelsie, and Samanthia ; her mother-in-law, Joyce; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 3, 2009, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Rock of Ages, Cleft For Me," "Amazing Grace, How Sweet The Sound" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Honorary pallbearers were: Donald Graham Jr., Alex Kethcart, Ken Kethcart, Donald Thies, Russell Stone, Larry Stone and Rex Graham. Pallbearers were: Darrel Wiebelhaus, Noel Wiebelhaus, Louise Poggensee, Arnie Poggensee, Mike Watje and Cory Thies. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
