William KINDER's parents may have been David KINDER (ca. 1799 KY/PA-aft. 1850) & Sarah (unk) (ca. 1802 KY-aft. 1850). If so, William's siblings may have included the following, all censused w/ David & Sarah in Warrick Co., Owen Twp., in 1850: 1 prob. Riden (M), 20, b IN; 2 Catharine M., 18, b KY; 3 Mary E., 18, b KY; 4 Henry H., 16, b KY; 5 Pleasant P. C. (M), 12, b KY; 6 Solly (prob. Solomon) (M), 11, b KY; 7 Louisa, 9, b KY; 8 Mary A., 8, b KY; 9 Hilza (F), 7, b KY; 10 Francis M. (M), 5, b IN; & 11 Charles M., 4, b IN. This family also included one John CARLISE, 15, b KY.
William KINDER & wife Frances N. were unusually censused twice in 1850, both in Warrick Co.: 1) Skelton Twp., 19 Aug - William, 25, farmer, b IN, & Frances, 22, b IN, & Diliana, 6/12, b IN; & 2) Owen Twp., 4 Sep - William, 25, farmer, b IN, & Frances N., 22, b IN, & Galina M., 6/12, b IN. Because the 2nd enumeration was next to that of the David & Sarah KINDER family (who had a RE value so owned land), it is believed probable that William's young family had moved onto his presumed father's land in the 16-day interim between his two recordings.
Henry William POWHATAN, claiming Maine nativity for himself (father b ME, mother b France), had lived in Spencer Co., IN, at least from 1856-1880, where he owned land. He served in the Civil War w/ Co. B, 53rd IN Inf. He may have been a circus performer, & indeed, most family members were told POWHATAN was not his birth surname, but rather a name he took from a circus poster...
Would be grateful for ANY info on any of these Kinders or Powhatans. Thanks!
