THOMAS M. MARKS, a prominent and prosperous agriculturist of Wayne Township, is a native of Tippecanoe County, Indiana, born in Jackson Township, July 28, 1842, the youngest son of the late THOMAS MARKS, who was one of the old and honored pioneers of the county.

THOMAS M. was reared to the vocation of a farmer, remaining on his father's farm until his marriage, and in his youth attended the district schools, where he received a common-school education. He was married October 1, 1868, to MISS SARAH E. LANE, the eldest daughter of DANIEL LANE, of Jackson Township, this county. Of the nine children born to this union eight are still living, named as follows--LYDIA, CORA BELLE, JACOB, ELLEN, ANNIE, THOMAS, DOTEY and FLOYD. A daughter named LIZZIE died at the age of seven months. After his marriage MR. MARKS settled on a tract of land his father had entered from the Government in 1826, and here he has since made his home, engaged in farming and stock-raising, and by good management and persevering industry he has become the owner of his present fine property, consisting of about 460 acres of choice land. He makes a specialty of raising Poland-China hogs, and has some of the finest hogs of this breed in Indiana; and also has some very fine specimens of short-horn cattle on his farm. His fine two-story residence is commodious and convenient, and his barns and other farm buildings are correspondingly good. Both socially and financially MR. MARKS is numbered among the leading men of his township, and is respected by all who know him. Politically MR. MARKS affiliates with the Republican party. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, an organization in which he taken an active interest. MRS. MARKS is a worthy member of the United Brethren church. Her daughters, LYDIA and CORA B., are members of the Methodist Episcopal church.
