There is a Taylor Street in Sims and in Swayzee, Grant Count, Indiana. Does anyone know if these streets were named after William R. Taylor or members of his family?

Sims village is about a mile west of Swayzee. Taylor Creek flows north from Swayzee through Richland Twp, Grant County. Taylor Creek is almost certainly named after William Robert Taylor 1806-1870 who founded the first farm in Richland Twp in 1840.

William's son Robert and his wife Rebecca were reportedly killed by Indians in Kansas in 1863 leaving their young children as orphans. In 1860 Robert's 40 acre farm was located on the southwest corner of the intersection of County Road W 350 S and S 900 W, abt 1/2 mile east of the center of Sims village. This land like all of Sims Twp was part of the 1840 purchase of the Big Miami Reserve from the Miami Indians.

By about 1870 Robert's farm was sold to Barry Leisure for whom I believe Leisure Ditch in Sims Twp was named.
