According to the attached articles, the witnesses named by Minerva all testified they knew nothing of the alleged incident. Percy Jones produced witnesses who testified that Percy was listening to live music on the other side of town at the time of the alleged incident. Thus, the charges were dismissed.

I expect that race relations in Logansport in the 1890s were similar to race relations all over the country at that time. However, it may not have been the main factor leading to the false accusation of Minerva. Based on the additional articles below, Minerva had a history of bringing questionable accusations to court.

Feb. 1889 - charge of "provoke" against Alexander Reed
July 1890 - charge of assault "provoke" against John Beaver (dismissed - lack of evidence)
July, 1895 - charge of "provoke" against Emma Lewis (Emma was acquitted)
Aug. 1895 - charge against Percy Jones dismissed

In March, 1903 Henry Diver sued his wife Minerva for divorce on the grounds of cruel and inhumane treatment and abandonment. He stated that she drinks liquor to excess and stays out at night. Divorce was granted in late March 1903.

Marriage Records for Henry Diver:
Henry Diver to Sarah E. Woodruff 9 Dec 1875 Cass Co. IN
Henry Diver to Allice A. Williams 20 Nov 1879 Cass Co. IN
Henry Diver to Elizabeth Bush Mullendore 27 Mar 1906 Carroll Co. IN

George L. Diver was born 21 Aug 1880 in Logansport, Cass Co. IN. His parents were Henry Diver and “Anna” Williams. George married Adah Moak 19 Mar 1906 in Cass Co. IN

Jennie Diver was born 10 Jul 1886 in Logansport, Cass Co. IN. Her parents were Henry and “Anna” Williams. Jennie married William J. Trent 10 Feb 1903 in Logansport, Cass Co. IN. Jennie later married George Bruns on 24 Jul 1906.

In her first marriage records, Jennie’s mother is listed as Minerva. In the 2nd marriage record, Jennie’s mother is listed as Anna.

Charles A. Diver was born 20 Sep 1889 in Logansport, Cass Co. IN. His parents were Henry Diver and "Anna" Williams. Charles died in Cook Co. IL 18 Apr 1913. Charles is buried in Logansport, IN.

I believe that Allice A. Williams may be the same person as Anna Williams. It MAY also be the same person as Minerva Williams. In Henry Diver divorce article, Henry states that he married Minerva in 1878. (He could have been off by one year).
