Speyer Family of Blackford, Indiana

I am searching for my husband's Speyer ancestors of Indiana. I believe they lived in Marshall, Blackford and Elkhart Counties.

Henry SPEYER is listed at Post 489 of the Indiana Grand Army of the
Republic at Culver, Marshall County, Indiana, 1900-1919. Are there
records that would tell me in which State, Unit, Company, etc. this
gentleman enlisted so that I could narrow down my search before
attempting to contact NARA?

My husband's Speyer ancestors lived in Culver in the early 1900's.
Although uncertain of his great-great grandfather's name, it is
"known" that he fought in the Civil War, supposedly for Indiana in a
Cavalry Unit known as the Volunteers.

My husband's great grandfather, Jacob Speyer, was born in 1866 in
Iowa, so, I guess, the great-great grandfather could have fought for
any state in that area, but joined the Indiana GAR post while living
in Culver in the early 1900's.

At Civil War Muster Rolls Database, I found a Joseph
Speyer who fought with the 13th Indiana Infantry. I believe he was in
Company U, and may have been "drafted" in 1864. Company. Joseph is a
name used over and over in this Speyer family, so he could be "the
one." Possibly the above Henry Speyer was Joseph Henry or Henry
Joseph. Or, perhaps these men were brothers. I believe this unit
mustered out of Evansville, IN. How near is this to Culver?

Any hints or leads on how to further my research of these soldiers?
Could there be additional Civil War Soldiers with the last name of
SPEYER (sometimes misspelled as Speyrer, Speyerer and Speier) who
lived in Indiana!?!

Thanks for any thoughts on this subject! Fredreica Speyer
