Researching the Sammons family. Searching for the parents of our g-g-grandfather (Adam Sammons - b. 1833 - d. 1862). Adam married Jane Fisher, had four children (Newton, Sarah, Michael, Daniel) and owned property in Jackson County. He died as a result of wounds he suffered at Fort Donelson in the Civil War. (Jane married Peter Taburing after Adam's death.)
Many of those researching the family show him as the son of Thomas Sammons (NY) but there are TWO Adam Sammons. (The NY line Adam died in a hospital in LA during the Civil War and military records indicate that he was single.)
At this point, looking at all Sammons in Jackson and nearby counties to see if we can find Adam's parents. There is a John Sammons, Robert Sammons and Daniel Sammons showing up in Union in 1820, 1830, 1840 Censuses. Daniel Sammons has a male child in the right age range in Union County in the 1840 Census. He fought in the Black Hawk War and owned two properties in Union County. Otherwise finding very little on him.
Thinking I will need to make a trip to IRAD in Carbondale or Courthouse in Union to see if I can find out what happened to his land (sold? handed down to wife? heirs?) Anyone researching Sammons in Union County? Or any advice? Thanks.
Donna (Sammons) Werner
