John Henry Smith, born 25 March 1855, IL (maybe White County, maybe Maccoupin); died 22 April 1936, Kansas City, Jackson County, MO; married Mary Jane “Jennie” Robinson, 21 November 1876, Macoupin County, IL.
Mary Jane “Jennie” Robinson, born about 1857, IL (probably Macoupin); died before 30 June 1900.
The Illinois Statewide Marriage Index shows a John Henry Smith marries
Mary Jane Robinson 20 November 1876 in Macoupin County, IL.
They move to Missouri They are enumerated in 1880 as living in Portage, St. Charles County, MO where John Henry Smith is a commercial fisherman. Also in the household is 1-year-old Wm. T. (William Thomas) Smith, born in IL and a James Hendley, age 14, born IL and listed as a half-brother.
They move to Clay County, AR where son Henry Omer Smith is born 25 March 1880.
They move to Butler, Bates County, MO where son Franklin “Frank” Smith is born 18 October 1885 and son Lewis Edward Smith is born 7 October 1886. I have Missouri birth records to document these births and confirm parents.
Daughter Florence Alice Smith was born 11 February 1889, but I do not know where in Missouri, Her Missouri death certificate only states Missouri.
Daughter Lillian Pearl “Lillie” Smith was born 7 March 1893 in Kansas City, Jackson County, MO.
By the 1900 Census, John Henry Smith is living with his children and is listed as a widower in Kansas City, Jackson County, MO
It is interesting to note that in 1900, John Henry Smith is living next door to a George Hendley, born September 1866 in IL.
I do know from research that James Hendley listed in the 1880 Census and George Hendley in the 1900 Census are brothers.
I believe there is a connection there somewhere, but just not sure.
I do have copies of obituaries, birth records, death certificates, etc. that document these findings.
The questions are:
Who are John Henry Smith’s parents?
Who are Mary Jane “Jennie” Robinson’s parents?
What is the connection to the Hendleys
Would appreciate any feedback or suggestions. Thanks!
