Donavon D. Hilligoss, 78, of LaHarpe, Ill., died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at his home.
Born April 13, 1922, in New Boston, Ill, he was the son of E. Clyde and M. Pearl Sutton Hilligoss. On Jan 12, 1946, he married Elizabeth J. "Bobbie" Roberts in Laguna Beach, Calif. She died Feb 18, 2000.
Mr. Hilligoss worked for Champion Spark Plug in Burlington for 25 years. He retired in 1984.
He was a graduate of Keithsburg High School in Keithsburg, Il. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of LaHarpe American Legion Post 201. LaHarpe Masonic Lodge 195, member and past president of LaHarpe Lions Club, Blandinsville New Hope Lodge 263 Odd Fellows, where he currently served as the noble grand, and was district deputy grand master of District 50 of the Old Fellows. He served on the scholarship committee for the Grand Lodge, was an avid Thunder fan and was a member of LaHarpe Union Church, where he served on the board for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Jean Blythe of LaHarpe and Donna Lee Wynn of Sioux City; two sons, William Dennis Hilligross of Stronghurst, Il., and Steven Richard Hilligoss of Good Hope Il.; and nine grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one son.
Visitation will begin after 2 pm Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, with Odd Fellows rites at 6:30 pm followed by family visitation until 9 pm.
The funeral for Mr. Hilligoss will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at LaHarpe Union Church, with the Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery, with a flag presentation by LaHarpe American Legion.
A memorial has been established for LaHarpe Union Church.
