MALAD — Chalyce Quirl Young, 36, passed away peacefully Saturday night, March 9, 2013, with her family gathered around her after a long battle with malignant melanoma.
Chalyce was born Feb. 7, 1977, in Moscow, Idaho, to Zeph Brent and Pat Sutton Quirl. She spent the first two years of her life in Moscow while her dad attended Washington State. They settled permanently in Teton when Chalyce was 2. There she was joined by a brother, Troy, two sisters, Sari and Jayna, and eventually her youngest brother, Derek.

Chalyce loved the out of doors and helping on the family farm. Moving pipe with her siblings and cousins, raising orphan calves, riding horses and bicycles, weeding in the garden, and fall harvest were some of here favorite childhood memories.

After high school, Chalyce studied at Ricks College for one year, then transferred to Boise State University where she finished her bachelors degree in Biology in 2000. Later she moved to Pocatello and enrolled at Idaho State University. Chalyce finished her second degree, Bachelors of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science in 2004.

While living in Pocatello, Chalyce was introduced to Lon. They became friends right off and after several months of courting were married in the Logan Temple on Jan. 29, 2005. Chalyce and Lon made their home in Malad, Idaho, where Chalyce took a job working in the lab at Oneida County Hospital. She made many friends and influenced so many people throughout the community of Malad and beyond.

Chalyce and Lon had their first child, Kason, in November 2006. Kason was joined by his little sister, Shaylie, in March of 2010.

One thing Chalyce valued most has been her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved serving and spent many hours doing just that — teaching, leading, and giving to others.

Chalyce is survived by her husband, Lon Gregory Young, her son, Kason Brent and daughter, Shaylie Ann; parents, Zeph and Pat Quirl of Teton; siblings, Troy Quirl (Christie) of Malad, Sari Shawcroft (Kelly), Jayna Harrop (Rod), both of Teton, Derek Quirl (Juteik) of Rupert. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Brent and Phyllis Quirl, her uncle, Kelly Hymas, her aunt, Melinda Sutton Friedl, also cousins Billy Reece and Travis Hopkins.

We would like to thank the incredible staff at the Huntsman Cancer Center — especially Dr. Grossman, Carolyn, Karen, and Joan. We are especially thankful for our wonderful friends and neighbors who so lovingly have brought many beautiful flowers, written cards, stopped to visit, and have brought countless meals during the long two years Chalyce has endured treatments and surgeries.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at the Malad LDS Stake Chapel. Friends may visit with the family on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Teton Newdale Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Horsley Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.horsleyfu
