OGDEN, Gladys Smart Minson, age 92, passed away peacefully Friday, April 25, 2008, due to complications from a stroke, while living at the home of her daughter in Ogden, Utah. She was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Georgetown, Idaho, a daughter of Parley G. and Emily McCammon Smart. She was about 12 when the family moved to Salt Lake City. They later moved back to Paris, where she graduated from Fielding High School.
She married Clifford David Minson on June 6, 1935, in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Georgetown when first married. They then lived at the power plant in Paris Canyon, and later built their home in Paris, where they lived the remainder of their married life. Cliff died Aug. 30, 1996.
Gladys was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and had a knack for making each one of us feel special. Her kind and understanding heart and her ability to just listen was appreciated by her family and dearest friends.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, and had served as a Primary teacher, MIA teacher, as dance director with Cliff and as a faithful visiting teacher for many years, until her health became an issue. She was also a member of the “Paris Sewing Club” for over 65 years.
Gladys was a talented, resourceful and creative lady, and took joy in making the simplest things beautiful. She enjoyed working with wood and had refinished and reupholstered many pieces of furniture in their home. Family and friends still treasure the many beautiful doilies she crocheted.
Other talents included sewing, oil painting, writing poetry, composing music and playing the organ, mandolin and guitar. She was an avid reader, enjoyed working in her flower beds, loved dogs, especially border collies, and also loved playing games.
She enjoyed the many camping trips, with Cliff and their group of friends. The two of them spent many hours going to the canyon to get firewood, and cut down their last Christmas tree when she was 78 and he was 80. In younger years they “danced up a storm” and were also avid square dancers.
Gladys is survived by one son and two daughters and spouses, Ross and Karen Minson, Pocatello, Idaho, Linda and Jay Hammer, Ogden, Utah, Sally and Gary Warren, Brigham City, Utah; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving is one sister-inlaw, Creola Packer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her sister, Effie Stock, and one great-granddaughter, Megan Minson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Paris Stake Center, where family and friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Paris Cemetery.
