Well Known Pioneer of Kootenai County Has Passes to the Other World

The funeral of Judge Henry Melder, who died at his summer home at Fish Lake from Advanced age, will be held at Rathdrum tomorrow afternoon. The Masons, Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias lodges will have charge of the services.

Judge Melder was a pioneer of the west, and at the time of his death was 80 years of age. He came to California in the fifties, during the early mining days. He was a surveyor by profession, and served as county surveyor of Snohomish county, Washington. In the year of 1880 he came to Spokane and was one of the first settlers on the Peone Prairie. In 1883 he moved to Kootenai county where he has resided ever since. He was one of the prominent and influential citizens and served several terms as probate judge. He possesses hosts of friends and admirers who will grieve to learn of his death.

He leaves to survive him a wife, three daughter, Mrs. Minnie Rose; Mrs. Mary Young; Mrs. Robert Bragaw, and four sons, Oscar, Henry, Fred and Gus. All save Mrs. Bragaw of Spokane are residents of the county.
