PRESTON, IDAHO — Spencer Cleveland Crookston Jr. born the second child of seven children to Spencer Cleveland and Josephine Reeder Crookston. In Logan Utah but he spent most of his childhood in Dayton, Idaho, He graduated from West Side High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army in Rome during World War II. He was awarded the bronze Star for his service there. He also served for 13 years in the first National Guard unit formed in Preston. He married Elsa McQueen on Jan. 9 1948 in the Logan Utah Temple. He retired from the Utah Power And Light, where worked for 37 years.
Spencer is a High Priest in the Preston Fourth Ward. He was Ward clerk for two Bishops and served as Stake financial clerk for 17 years under three different Stake Presidencies. He enjoyed being a ham radio specialist and also worked in the family history extraction program.
Spencer loves the mountains and canyons. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and vacationing with his family. Gardening, building projects with wood, dutch-oven cooking and helping any of his children or anyone he saw that had a need. Spencer and Elsa have lived in Preston all their married life, where they raised their six children. He is survived by his children, Nicholas (Geraldine) Crookston of Chubbuck, Idaho, Larry Crookston of Honolulu Hawaii, Leah Ann Whiting of Nampa Idaho, Janet (Doug) Profaizer of Hyde Park Utah, Eliza (Carter) Talbot of Logan Utah; and Steve (Mary Sue) Crookston of Preston Idaho. They have 19 grandchildren, and 41 great grandchildren with one on the way. Two sisters, Carol McNiel, Calif., Edith Helmendollar, Pocatello Idaho, Reed (Barbara) Crookston Kerns, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, wife Elsa and siblings Enid Foster, Jean Balls, and Josephine Olsen.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at 12 p.m. in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. State, Preston, Idaho. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 8th East, Preston and Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the stake center.
