SYRACUSE – Claudia L. Mitton, our sweet mother and grandmother, died peacefully of natural causes, May 15, 2013, just one week prior to her 90th birthday. She was born May 22, 1923, to Junius C. and Charity E. Larsen, in Mink Creek, Idaho. She was the eighth of 12 children. She married her sweetheart, James Wesley Mitton, on April 29, 1940, in Provo, Utah. The marriage was solemnized November 22, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. Wesley died 30 years ago in 1983.
Claudia's life was devoted to family and church. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served in many callings including seminary teacher, Relief Society President, Primary President, MIA teacher, Ogden Temple worker, and Visiting Teacher for over 70 years. She also served a mission along with her husband to England.
She loved sports, baking and canning, traveling, gardening, and her grandchildren. Claudia faced many health challenges in her life, but her motto was "Count Your Blessings, Not Your Problems", and she lived by this, never complaining and always sweet and kind. She was loved by all who knew her.
Claudia is survived by her children: Jay (Joan) Mitton; Marilyn (James) Roth; Linda (Lyle) Elmore; special niece Kathe (Harris) who lived with us for several years; sister Donna Purser; brother Thane (Margaret) Larsen; 16 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 9 step-grandchildren; 28 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers; Elden, Virgil, Laurel, Farrell; five sisters, Marilyn Larsen, Roda Anderson, Roma Stimpson, Maxine Moss, Shirley Hartley, and one grandson, David Mitton.
The family wishes to thank Harmony Hospice nurses and staff for loving care rendered this past year. Special thanks to Tara and Christina.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at the Syracuse Legacy Park Stake Center, 2024 South 1475 West, Syracuse, Utah. Friends may call at the chapel prior to the services from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m.
Interment at 3:00 p.m. at the Hyrum Utah City Cemetery.
