Holladay, UT-Mary Smith Hastings, age 87, was reunited with her sweetheart on March 27, 2013. Mary was born in Franklin, Idaho to John Smith and Verna Lowe Smith on April 2, 1925. She received her education at Franklin School in Franklin, Idaho. After graduation she attended Stevens Henager College on a scholarship from her principal. After graduating from Stevens Henager she worked at the Royal Typewriter Company in Salt Lake. One evening Mary and her friends attended a dance at Memory Grove where she met the love of her life, Eugene Grant Hastings. They were married on November 22, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised three sons. Music was important to Mary and she was an excellent pianist. She taught piano for many years and touched the lives of many students. She was the ward organist for a good part of her married life. In their later years Mary and Gene served a mission in Jackson, Mississippi. After returning from their mission, Gene suffered from Alzheimer's and Mary was his loving caretaker until he passed away. She was a grateful person who was content with what she had. She loved her home in Salt Lake where she lived for over 60 years and it seemed right to bring her back home for the last two and one-half weeks of her life.

Mary is survived by two sons, Bruce (Janice), and Alan (Linda), seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Emer, her eternal companion, Gene, her son, Blaine, and a grandson, Aaron.
