Sergene Andra Sorenson Jensen, an 81-year-old longtime resident of Burley, Idaho, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, in Lake Havasu, Arizona. She was born on Feb. 2, 1932, in Preston, Idaho, to William F. Andra Sr. and Mary Louise Wanner Andra. Sergene graduated from Preston High School in 1950. She was a cheerleader and the Preston Night Rodeo Queen where she was pictured on Roy Rogers' horse, "Trigger Jr.," on the cover of the Preston Rodeo program. She married Bert B. Sorenson on Aug. 22, 1950, in Nampa, Idaho. They were the proud parents of two sons, Scott B. Sorenson and Andrew S. Sorenson. Bert passed away on March 4, 1991. Sergene married Harlan B. Jensen, who passed away on Feb. 4, 2002. She leaves a loving companion, Neal Dean, a faithful friend and golf partner, who cared for her during her illness.
Sergene owned and operated Sergene's Wig Wam and Boutique in Burley, Idaho, from 1970 until her retirement. Sergene's competitive nature and natural talents for golf and bowling were memorialized in numerous awards for lifelong achievement and leadership. Sergene participated in the Idaho State Amateur Golf Tournament for 53 consecutive years. She was honored as the Burley Municipal Ladies Golf Association Champion from 1956 to 1986. She was a permanent fixture on the Idaho Women's and Chapman couple's golf circuits and was an active member of the Idaho Couples Golf Association. Her signature golf hats and friendly demeanor were accompanied by an arsenal of jokes to make everyone laugh and smile.
She is survived by her son, Andy, and, his wife, Christine, of Irrigon, Oregon; Neal Dean; four brothers, Donald W. Andra (Lolane) of Pocatello, Idaho, Dale Andra (Judy) of St. George, Utah, Ross L. Andra (Adelaide) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Larry E. Andra (Barbara) of Preston, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her son, Scotty Sorenson; her parents; three sisters, June Johnson, Millie Beck, and Colleen Lloyd; and, four brothers, William Jr., Golden, Robert, and Dennis Andra.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, Idaho.
