SMITHFIELD — Paula Hodges Denney, 52, passed away peacefully at home Oct. 23, 2012, after lengthy and numerous health problems. Born Sept. 14, 1960, in Preston, Idaho, to Wanda Egbert and Elmo Hodges, she was the sixth of seven children. When Paula was about 6 years old, the family moved to Weston, Idaho, where she resided with family until she was 17. Tragedy struck the Hodges family: A younger 9-year-old sister Janeal and mother Wanda passed away within a year’s time. She then moved to Logan, Utah, to live with her older brother Randy (deceased) and his wife Marsha Nicoles.

During the oil boom in the mid-’80s the three moved to Rawlins, Wyo., for employment and stayed for a short time.

In the late ’80s she moved back to Cache Valley for good. Her employment through the years took her to Ernst Home Center, Low Cost Drug, Rawlins Paint and Glass, Icon Health and Fitness and Smithfield Implement.

In 1989 she met Brett Denney at Icon. They were married May 18, 1990, in the Old Rock Church in Providence, Utah. In 1991 they moved to Smithfield, Utah, where she was residing until the time of her death.

During their early marriage , they loved camping and boating. She loved the outdoors, sitting around the campfire telling stories and admiring God’s majestic creation. Paula was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was working toward a temple marriage. In the millennium year 2000, the Heavens blessed her with her only child, Kali Rose, who was her pride and joy.

“Kali, even though mom was sick these last few years, she loved you with all her heart. Always remember that.”

Paula’s hobbies included watching her “soaps” and listening to real music from the ’70s and ’80s. She loved to decorate the house for every event and holiday and cherished family events.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Janeal and brother Randy. She is survived by her husband Brett; daughter Kali; brothers Mike, Kenny, Kimber and Scott — along with their families; and Marsha Hodges, whom she treated as her own sister.

A special thanks goes out to Dr. Todd Brown, Dr. Bryan Larsen, Dr. Ira Crawford, Logan Regional staff and Ogden Regional staff for all their efforts in keeping Paula with us a few extra years, and Last but not least: our families and especially our church family that has been by our side throughout the years.

“Paula we love you very much and will miss you deeply, ’til we meet again.”

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, in the Smithfield 11th Ward chapel, 79 E. 200 South in Smithfield. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 S. Main St. in Smithfield, and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Weston Cemetery in Weston, Idaho.
