Raymond Harris Ostler passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013 at his home in Thatcher, Idaho at the age of 82. He was born July 31, 1930 in Nephi Utah to Arthur G. Ostler and Lola Worthington. Ray attended Central School and Juab High School. He grew up helping his dad ranch and farm. When his dad passed away in 1948, he and his brothers were left to take care of the farm and cattle. Ray developed a love for horses.

He liked to chase mustangs in the spring on the West Desert of Juab County. He was Vice President of the Mt. Nebo Riding Club. Ray participated as a Pony Express rider for five miles in Emigration Canyon during the centennial celebration. He loved working with his work horses.

Ray and Voneal met at a riding club drill. After two years of courtship they were married on April 28, 1949 in Nephi, Utah. After marriage, Ray and Voneal moved to a ranch in Norton Ville, where they ranched and did custom haying. Ray also worked making conveyer belts at the Thermaid Rubber Plant in Nephi.

Ray and Voneal decided they need a larger place to run cattle. After seeing an advertisement in the Salt Lake Tribune they purchased the Herman Wakeman place and moved to Grays Lake in October 1960. Moving to Grays Lake became a learning experience for the family because of the heavy winter snow. Ray fed his own cattle and also fed cattle for Charles Tingey for 14 years. He also worked for the late Earl Somsen Sr. at his sawmill in Wayan.

Ray served on the Grays Lake LDS Ward Building Fund and was over the Elders in Temple Project. He became a member of the Idaho Citizen Grazing Association and served as secretary of Long Valley Cattle Association.

In 1972, Ray and Voneal bought a place in Thatcher where they have wintered since 1973. Ray served as president and on the board of the Thatcher Culinary Water Association.

Ray and Voneal have been married for 64 years. They have four children: Sharon Curtis (Paul) of Boise; Greg (Brenda) Ostler of Grace; Maxine (Leon) Spencer of Battle Mountain, NV and Hal (Susie) Ostler of Battle Mountain, NV. He is also survived by 19 Grandchildren, 38 Great-Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arthur and Norman Ostler.

Services will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Thatcher-Williams Ward Chapel in Niter. The family will visit with friends on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Church and also on Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services. Burial will be in the Turner Cemetery.
