Richard Alan Dredge, 71, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at his home in St. George, Utah following a battle with cancer. Alan was born on November 25, 1940, in Malad, Idaho, the son of Wilford John Dredge and Vera May Allen Dredge. He was the second of five children. He had two brothers and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilford John Dredge, his mother, Vera May Allen, and a brother, Bruce M. Dredge. Alan is survived by his wife, Cheryl, St. George, UT; two sons, and two daughters and their spouses: Rodney (Dana) Dredge of Salt Lake City, Utah, Tamera (Kent) Crowther of Santaquin, UT, Sandra (Hugh) Meadows of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Douglas (Julie) Dredge of Draper, Utah; one brother, Lynn (Annette) Dredge of Tulare, California, two sisters, Dianne (Chad) Smith of West Bountiful, UT, Karen Fryar of St. George, UT and Sister-in-Law, Martha Dredge of Soda Springs, Idaho. He has 19 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

He married Cheryl Lawrence, Feb 10, 1991 in Mission Bay, California. They were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on August 9, 1995.

Alan was raised and educated in Soda Springs, Idaho, where he grew up working alongside his parents, brothers, and sisters on the family ranch north of Soda Springs. He graduated from Soda Springs High School in 1958 and attended Ricks College and BYU.

He had a great love of flying and was a commercial pilot, business owner, and real estate investor. He was active politically, a member of the NRA, and had a strong belief in the free enterprise system in the United States. Since retirement he and Cheryl enjoyed golfing, traveling to Northern Idaho, and visiting the family ranch in Soda Springs. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Snow Canyon 11th Ward Lava Flow LDS Chapel, 1625 Lava Flow Drive, St. George, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd... St. George, Utah and prior to the service at the Lava Flow LDS Chapel from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be Monday, Oct 15, at 12:00 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs, Idaho.
